Kahal Zur Israel means "Reef Community of Israel", a name that refers to the reefs of Recife. Its construction dates from 1636 (the time of Dutch rule), which makes itself the first synagogue of the Americas. In 2001 it was reopened and receive the feature of a museum, under the project of great architect José Luiz Mota Menezes.
